Zwift Bike Upgrades: Do Smaller Riders Get the Same Gains?
  • 2026.05.26
  • 0

When I first started digging into Zwift’s Bike Upgrade system, I went down the same rabbit hole as everyone else—reading posts, comparing charts, and trying to figure out which upgrades were actually worth it. On paper, it all seemed pretty straightforward. The catch is that almost all of it is...

Watts. So Hard to Understand?
  • 2026.05.10

Zwift’s current w/kg‑based categories might look fair on paper, but the physics tell a different story. When you hold watts per kilogram constant, heavier riders quietly gain an advantage because they’re pushing more absolute power at the same w/kg, and that translates directly into faster speeds and bigger time gaps....

I spent a few unforgettable days in Mallorca at Zwift Community Live, where years of virtual connections turned into real-life conversations and rides. From workshops and group rides to unexpected coffee chats and dinner table stories, the event was a powerful reminder that the Zwift is built on people first....

Reimagining The Future of Zwift Racing: Defining the Problem
  • 2026.03.15

The ZRL category crisis isn't just a race-day inconvenience—it’s a symptom of a platform that has forgotten its own potential. It’s time to stop patching the holes and start building an ecosystem that rewards consistency, celebrates age, and puts the rider—not the algorithm—at the center of the journey. It's time...

ZRL Evolution: From w/kg Trap to ZRS
  • 2026.03.08

ZRL's w/kg system crushes lighter women riders with brutal 'category cliffs.' Short term fix? Zwift Racing Score (ZRS)—the pragmatic bridge to fairness that Zwift already built. It's not perfect, but it's lightyears better than the status quo.

ZRL Lessons: Why the CAT Upgrade System Favors Heavier Riders
  • 2026.02.03

Frustrated with ZRL racing? Lighter women face a built-in disadvantage under a category system that claims to measure relative fitness but actually rewards absolute watts. We break down the data showing how current w/kg thresholds create a substantial power gap—and reveal why heavier teams can linger in lower categories longer...

OLDER WOMEN IN LYCRA

Pedal with Purpose:
Empowering Women 50+
One Ride at a Time

OWL.BiKe isn’t just a cycling community—it’s a flock of unstoppable women in Lycra rewriting the rules on what power looks like past 50. We’re Older Women in Lycra (OWLs), and we’ve decided blending in is overrated.
For us, showing up beats showing off every time. Some of us chase watts in Tuesday ZRL races, others roll into our Grey Zone Empowerment rides—think trivia, laughter, and light pedaling while learning what real empowerment feels like. Whether you’re spinning easy or pushing hard, every ride is a win because you showed up and had fun doing it.
OWL.BiKe is where friendship meets grit. We lift each other up with genuine gratitude and a good dose of humor, reminding one another that we still get to do this—and that’s worth celebrating. There’s no talk of slowing down here, only building strength, confidence, and joy.
In our flock, age isn’t a limit—it’s an edge. We ride together, laugh together, and rise together. Because when OWLs take flight, the world can’t help but notice.
